Home Visits

Home visits are performed for regular patients of this practice who are either too ill or otherwise unable to attend the surgery.  Unfortunately home visits disrupt surgery efficiency and will only be done if absolutely necessary.  Home visits will be done at the Doctor’s discretion.

Telephone Access To Doctors

This practice receives many phone requests from patients wishing to speak with the Doctor.  Due to the time involved in handling each call, the nature of phone enquiries must be discussed with the receptionist before the Doctor is disturbed.  The receptionist will then communicate with the Doctor, who will advise of the appropriate course of action.

After Hours

A Doctor is available at all hours for the patients of this practice.  After hours are usually covered by Family Medicare Services on 137 425 [sick].  Patients will also be able to access this number by dialing the surgery phone number 5445 1046 after hours.

Repeat Prescriptions

Due to medico legal reasons, repeat scripts will only be issued at an appointment with the Doctor.

Referrals

Referrals to a specialist requires a medical examination by your doctor so that a relevant and helpful  letter can be written.  No referral will be given without consultation, nor will it be backdated.  This is a medico legal requirement.

Results Of Tests

Your doctor will ask you to make a follow up appointment to discuss the outcome of any tests.  This will allow a treatment programme to be planned, review of the medical condition, further examination (if required) and tests to be arranged if the diagnosis is still unclear.

Holiday Immunisation

If you are travelling overseas you may need extra vaccinations.  We recomend visits to be at least 4 weeks prior to travel as some vaccinations need this length of time to be most efffective. Travel requirements can be complicated and confusing, and needs to be discussed in person, not over the phone.

Practice Ethics

This practice is committed to providing comprehensive General Practice care to all individuals and families in the community.  All patient consultations and medical records are kept strictly confidential.  Our aim is to help you maintain the highest level of health by providing the best possible medical care.

For this reason we have introduced a patient recall system for some medical requirements, eg: immunizations and pap smears, health assessments and other medical issues.

Patient Access To Medical Records

The doctors are fully aware of the new legislation enabling patients to access their medical records.  Our doctors have endorsed a surgery policy which is compliant with the legislation.

Patient Confidentiality

The practice doctors and staff are all aware of the importance of medical confidentiality for our patients.  Medical information is only released when the practice has signed consent from the patient or in the event that the practice is served with a subpoena.

Personal Health Information

Your medical record is a confidential document.  It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorized members of staff.

Complaints & Suggestions

We constantly strive to give the best possible care and attention.  If you are unhappy with any aspect of the care you receive from this practice, we are keen to know about it. Please feel free to talk to your doctor or the receptionist about any problems you have with the service we provide.  We believe that problems are best dealt with within the practice.  However, if you feel there is a problem you wish to take up outside, contact Health Rights Commission, GPO Box 3089, Brisbane, QLD.  Phone (07) 3234 1674 or fax: (07) 3234 0333.
